
The Lions Club of Colombo Ceylon Excellence recently recognized the academic achievements of a bright Loyalty Pledge scholar by donating a tablet to support his forthcoming higher studies. Supun Abeysekara, the Loyalty Pledge scholar who secured a place in the Medical Faculty of the University of Colombo was the grateful recipient.
Supun Abeysekara secured 3 As in the Biology stream returning the best performances of all the LPMC scholars at the GCE A/L exam in 2024. He became 14th in the Colombo district and 209th in the Island. Supun held various leadership positions in the sports and co-curricular activities in the College, and he was actively involved with the cadet platoon at Royal. He was a Junior Steward as well as a Senior Prefect.
The presentation ceremony took place at the RCU Skills Centre. The essential piece of technology, which will serve as a vital tool for his demanding medical course, was generously donated by Lion Bhasuru Abeysinghe, Vice President of the Lions Club of Colombo Ceylon Excellence.
The donation underscores the Lions Club’s commitment to supporting education and empowering outstanding young individuals from the community. Lion Bhasuru Abeysinghe highlighted the significance of providing digital resources in today’s educational landscape.

The ceremony was attended by the donor, Lion Bhasuru Abeysinghe, and the recipient, Supun Abeysekara. Mr. Abhaya Amaradasa, President of the Loyalty Pledge Management Committee, Mr. Kamal Abeysinghe, former Secretary of the Royal College Union. In addition, Lion Ayesh De Silva, President of Lions Club of Colombo Ceylon Excellence, Lion Hashini Wijesekera, Board Director of Lions Club of Colombo Ceylon Excellence and Samith Mapalagama, Lions Club International District 306D6 Cabinet Treasurer and well-wishers from the Royal College Union graced the occasion. The event concluded with expressions of gratitude and best wishes for Supun’s academic career.
