Mr. Thayananthan Ponnaiah, President of Royal College Old Boys Association of New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory (RCOBA NSW and ACT ), and its Treasurer, Mr. Kesara Jayasuriya, visited the Royal College Skills Centre on 8th March 2023 and met several officials from the Royal College Union (RCU), Loyalty Pledge Management Committee (LPMC) and Edex Committee. Mr. Nadun Chandrarathna – Assistant Secretary, RCU, Abhaya Amaradasa – Chairman, LPMC, Mr. Mahinda Galagedera – Chairman, Edex Committee and Mr. Sachith Jayakody – Treasurer, LPMC participated at the event.
Mr. Chandrarathne firstly thanked and expressed sincere gratitude to the membership of the RCOBA NSW and ACT for their continued support to the RCU, LPMC, and Edex. He after that explained the current status of the ongoing projects
of the Royal College Union and shared information on the upcoming projects planned by the Union.
During the discussions, Mr. Ponnaiah and Mr. Jayasuriya were briefed on the progress of initiatives taken with the assistance of RCOBA NSW and ACT, and the opportunities were explored as to how the RCOBA NSW and ACT could support more to Royal College through the Royal College Union. Mr. Ponnaiah and Mr. Jayasuriya mentioned that as a group, RCOBA NSW and ACT would fully support the initiatives of the RCU and they are willing to consider joining hands with the RCU on a school development project.
Mr. Amaradasa briefed the RCOBA NSW & ACT delegation on the LPMC scholarship program and invited members of their group to participate online in the 2022/23 scholarship selection interview process which is expected to commence in May 2023
Mr. Thayananthan Ponnaiah and Mr. Kesara Jayasuriya, on behalf of the RCOBA NSW and ACT, confirmed that they would donate three (3) more “Help a Needy Student” scholarships for four (4) years from 2023 totaling their donation to fourteen (14) scholarships. After consulting their membership, they also expressed interest in supporting the Personality and Communication Development Programme conducted by the LPMC.
The Loyalty Pledge Management Committee sincerely appreciates the commitment of RCOBA NSW & ACT to enhance its donation to the LPMC during challenging times in Sri Lanka. Even though the members of RCOBA NSW & ACT are miles away from Sri Lanka, their help through the RCU and LPMC will definitely benefit illuminating the life of Royalists in Sri Lanka.
