Poson Poya Day commemorates the arrival of Arhat Mahinda in Sri Lanka for laying the foundation of a new civilization in Sri Lanka by introducing the teachings of Buddhism to King Devanampiyatissa. This historic occasion took place in Mihintale more than 2300 years ago, dawning a new era in Sri Lanka by transforming the political, economic, social and cultural life at that time into one modern civilization influenced by Buddhism. Apart from the spiritual importance attached to this day, the Poson Poya Day is celebrated as a cultural event to mark the reawakening of Sri Lanka as an enriched nation.
We, the Loyalty Pledge consider that it is our prime duty to nurture Sri Lankan identity among young Royalists. “Poson Bathi Gee” is initiated by the Loyalty Pledge to give an opportunity for young Royalists to join the celebrations of this historic, religious and cultural event of Poson Poya by showcasing their aesthetic talents to the World.
